Joe Hotels iPhone App is Waiting For Review

I’ve managed to fix some of the performance problems with my first iPhone application by reducing the size of the hotel database from ~6MB to ~2.5MB.

I’ve submitted the application to the App Store and eagerly await my first rejection…

Tap is not the same as click

I’ve updated my little iPhone app... Figured out one of the quirks when developing a web app for a touch device and web browser. When binding an event you need to listen for tap events from ipad/iphone and click events from the browser.

Same rules apply as before; this demo is designed to work with Webkit browsers (Safari).

Warning Joe Hotels includes a 6MB database (JSON) of ~10,000 independent hotels. It will take a long time to preview over the web… I’m hoping by converting it to a native application using phoneGap it will alleviate the extremely long load times.

iPhone Development Fun

Take a sneak peak at my first iPhone application:

If you’re running a webkit browser you can preview the app online. It’s still kinda flakey in Webkit, but works well from an iPhone.

I’ve built a very simple app that contains a database of ~10,000 independent US hotels and will find the ones closest to your current location and sort them by distance.

I’m using the jQTouch iPhone development framework and plan on pushing it into a phoneGap to make a dedicated app out of it.

Section 508

I’ve just completed an audit for the United Way of Kootenai County Idaho’s website for Section 508 Compliance. After a few tweaks I can proudly proclaim Section 508 validation.

Section 508 requires that Federal agencies’ electronic and information technology is accessible to people with disabilities. The Center for Information Technology Accommodation (CITA), in the U.S. General Services Administration’s Office of Governmentwide Policy, has been charged with the task of educating Federal employees and building the infrastructure necessary to support Section 508 implementation.
